Who knows what birds fly in the box,
What songs the pebbles sing to the stars?
In the blue there are shades of green
where a slow moving submarine
gnaws at the ankles of the ocean.
When the river dries up
and shows its cracked belly,
the ocean flows back into its child.
The submarine stays like a whale washed to the shore.
And the men in it rejoice
for having discovered a new land.
The jaws of the ocean now seem like friends to them.
The birds have pecked holes in the boxes.
The joker preaches to the stones,
and in the cacophony of sounds,
the stars strain to hear the pebbles’ refrain.
