Fleeting

I see your face
in the last shred of light tattoed into the sunset.

I want to soak in your splendor
before the horizon buries you in itself.

Your eyes look at me
and I see your love sprinkled like the stars,
Each one carrying a bit of you in its fire.

As the night darkens, I collect your words
scattered between the grains of the sand.

Each sound carries your scent.

And now that you will not be around,
I see you everywhere, in every cloud.
You are like quartz in the rock,
and the green of the leaves.

Over the weeks, leaves will lie crumpled in yellow.
Over the years, the rock will turn to dust.
